Butoh meets the outdoors in this special edition of Chaotic Garden — Cosmic Garden, an original creation directed by internationally-acclaimed Butoh dancer and choreographer Emiko Agatsuma.Our body is part of the universe. The universe is always chaotic.
In Singapore, where order and control shape so much of our daily lives, desire often hides beneath the surface. Even in a city that looks peaceful and well-kept, human beings still dream wild dreams at night.
Butoh offers a way to confront this tension. In our everyday lives, we follow rules, suppress impulses, and maintain appearances—but our emotions, our “bad desires,” continue to exist. If ignored, they grow larger and cause turmoil in the mind. If embraced, they can teach us what it means to be human, and reveal the depths of our humanity.
